Associazione Nazionale Magistrati

Independence and autonomy for the judiciary

The National Association of Magistrates (ANM) is the organisation that represents and protects Italian magistrates, promoting the independence of the judiciary and the proper administration of justice. Through cultural, educational, and institutional initiatives, it supports the role of magistrates within the rule of law, fostering transparency and dialogue with society. ANM is a founding member of the International Association of Judges.

Brand design. A symbol of justice and equality

The ANM logotype, designed by Inarea together with the association’s leadership, features the lowercase monogram “anm” to symbolise equality and parity before the law. The lettering is rendered in gold, set against black to recall the traditional colours of judicial robes, evoking authority and institutional rigour. The distinctive braided cord, typical of the traditional gown, extends from the “m” to emphasise continuity and cohesion, and above all to reflect the founding values of the judiciary: justice, responsibility, and solidarity.

Brand design. The image of broken roses

The Capaci massacre of May 1992, which took the lives of Giovanni Falcone, his wife Francesca, and the members of his escort, led Antonio Romano to transform that pain into a symbolic image. From a white sheet torn at its centre emerge the broken roses, embodying the memory of lives cut short. The red roses symbolise the sacrifice and courage of magistrates, while the white background conveys respect and silence. At the same time, the image as a whole unexpectedly recomposes the colours of the Italian flag. Since 2000, it has become the emblematic icon of the ANM, commemorating all magistrates killed by mafia and terrorism, turning grief into a collective message of resolve, justice, and civic participation. In November 2022, a commemorative stamp was issued by the Italian State Mint and Polygraphic Institute.
